This record screams art fag in the best way possible, with heavy ass riffs. The newest release from the band daughters is still spazzy, heavy, & weird but surprisingly catchy. The singers new Jesus Lizard sounding vocals work perfectly with the new groovy style they are playing on this record. It's too bad this band broke up they are not even going to tour this album. Daughters have evolved their sound multiple times over since they were called As the Sun Sets. It sucks there's no more Daughters but at least we get this kick ass and truly unique sounding record. PICK THIS SHIT UP

A review of the new DANGERS record "Messy Isn't It"

First off LA's Dangers kicks some serious ass. Listening to their previous record "Anger" all the way through was part of my daily routine for a few months. "Messy Isn't It" does not disappoint at all. The band has progressed a lot on this album where as "Anger" was just straight hardcore riffs, "Messy Isn't it" incorporates a lot more melody and creativity in their song structures. This record has a much darker feel then "Anger". The lyrics (which is the best part about this record) are about hopelessness, shit relationships, being fed up with the bullshit that is everyday life, and coming to grips with death. The packaging for this record comes with a huge poster of a woman holding a shotgun to her neck and on the back are the lyrics. These days the packaging for a record is so important especially when you can steal all the songs you want off the internet. "Messy Isn't It" comes with both a vinyl and a CD so you cant loose. PICK THIS SHIT UP!

PENTAGRAM at the Ultra Violet
Having been at it since the 70s MD/DC's PENTAGRAM still kills it. Bobby Leibling's vocals were sounding better then ever and on point this past Saturday at the Ultra Violet. I dont know how much longer Bobby Leibling is going to be doing Pentagram but the vibe I got from the show is the dude still has plenty of party left in him when he said they would be coming back to LA sometime next year. so if ya missed it last night lets hope he stays good on his word. Everyone was feeling it during "Sign of the Wolf" no matter how much / little drugs and alcohol was in your system. the Ultra Violet itself was very accommodating and aesthetically pleasing perfect for a Pentagram show. The art of Raul Gonzalez lines the walls of the club, check out his art and more info about the club at ultravioletsocialclub.com

SUIDAKRA returns to Los Angeles; win free tickets!
Last year, at this same time in March, we met SUIDAKRA when the Pagan Knights Tour stopped off at the Knitting Factory. Although they opened the last tour; they brought half the crowd, and fans came in hordes to hear these German's celtic metallers tear it up. What we didn't know until now is that they have over 9 full lengths out, and have been playing for 14 years, long before Pagan metal bands starting popping up left and right. Combining fast melodic death metal, Irish folk music, and a torrent of harmonies, they prove yet again, on their latest record "Crógacht", the ability to blend several different influences into their unique sound.
Check out SUIDAKRA performing "Shattering Swords" at the Knitting Factory:
SUIDAKRA will be returning to Los Angeles on March 19th, this time playing the Ultra Violet in Los Angeles. STATIUS has been tapped as direct support, and they are definately a local band that everyone needs to check out.
Tickets are on sale now @ 8thDayTix.com

Blog of the 8th Day?
I guess it only makes sense that I be the first person to post an actual "blog" here on yet another internet creation by the ever so techologically savvy Jordan but the problem is that I've never saw myself as someone who would actually sit down and blog about anything at all. That in itself might seem to be an oxymoron by the people who actually know me in real life because my endless rants, tirades as well as my publicized writings can pretty much be classified as a blog of sorts.
I guess it's the stigma in my mind of putting myself into a group of people that call themselves "bloggers." I just don't see myself wanting to fit into that classification of people even though I do admit that some people do write some interesting stuff. Who actually knows but here I am, writing the first blog for the Church of the 8th day.
When I asked what I should write about though I was told that it should be an introduction of sorts into what this blog could be or actually become but I don't want to put any sort of boundaries on this whole thing because as with Church of the 8th Day, I always want to leave the things I am involved with room to grow. I can tell you that as of now the plans are to talk about upcoming shows, post show reviews, have spotted CD reviews, include rants about the scene and I am sure given some time, I'll end up writing a bunch of well thought out, passionate columns about the scene, the lifestyle and everything that goes into putting on underground Metal, Punk, Grind etc etc shows in the Los Angeles area.
The only thing that I can promise is that we'll do our best to make this whole Blog something a little more than a place where one person sits down and writes journalistic style entries. Hell, that's what Live Journal is for... and yes, I actually do have one of those! So, here's to the Church of the 8th Day joining the Blogger revolution, lets try to keep it informative, funny at times, passionate, well thought out and well out of the realm of the normal d-bag territory that we all seem to creep into sometimes, after an all night marathon of Jersey Shore of course.
Keep fist pumping like champions and I'll see you on the flipside, brocefs.

Saint Vitus reunities!
Taken from CityOfDevils, an LA music blog...
"The last decade saw a rash of reunions. Some were good ideas gone bad, and some should have never happened in the first place. But there were a few exceptions, including last year's gift to all you doom freaks - the return of ST. VITUS at the 2009 Roadburn. It was unclear if that show would just be a one-off. And even if the band thought they could do more, would it actually happen? The diehards that could pull it off refused to wait for that question to be answered and made the pilgrimage to Tilburg. But then, in spite of Wino's ridiculous schedule, more shows happened. First in Germany, then the east coast, and now our time has come. And it's about time. St. Vitus is a Los Angeles band, right?"
Read more at CityOfDevils and enter their contest to win a pair of tickets!
